MoaFab launches, expanding to Seoul National University and DGIST in the second half of the year.
The launch of a service that allows users to utilize national nanofab services scattered across the country in one place is expected to improve convenience for users.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced on the 8th that it will begin pilot operation of the 'Fab Service Integrated Information System (hereinafter referred to as MoaFab)', which will provide one-stop service to fab users by gathering national nanofab services scattered across various organizations in one place online.
MoaFab was launched with the goal of improving user-centered services based on collaboration and connection between nanofabs. From the perspective of fab users, it provides convenient functions such as △integrated fab service application and management, △real-time monitoring of application service progress, △reservation time recommendation service, and △provision of fab institution equipment information.
In addition, from the perspective of nanofab institutions, it is expected that the efficiency and convenience of nanofab operation will be improved by △upgrading the fab service process management system, △providing service inquiry and processing functions using mobile terminals, and △process linkage service functions between nanofab institutions.
MoaFab (www.moafab.kr) will standardize nanofabs among participating institutions starting in 2022 and establish user services and an institutional fab management system based on this.
Starting in January 2024, a pilot operation will be conducted for users of the first-stage service target institutions: the National Nanotechnology Convergence Institute (NNFC), the Korea Nanotechnology Institute (KANC), and the National Institute of Nano Convergence Technology (NINT). Participants in the MoaFab pilot program will be provided with coffee coupons.
Once the pilot operation in three institutions is completed, the first phase of the service is scheduled to begin in March 2023, and in the second half of 2024, the service will be expanded to the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Seoul National University's Inter-Semiconductor Research Center (ISRC), and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST).
Going forward, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to expand the participation of nanofab facilities operated by universities, research institutes, etc. in MoaFab, and plans to continuously improve services from the perspective of users from industry, academia, and research institutes to enable more convenient use.
Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho said, “Once the MoaFab service is launched, users will be able to easily access nanofabs across the country in one place, which will greatly improve the convenience of using fab services. We will also be able to provide inter-fab linkage services that were difficult to provide until now,” adding, “We expect the MoaFab service to contribute to the next level of advancement in Korea’s semiconductors and nanotechnology.”
