The 4th MATLAB College AI Competition Held
Preliminary applications until June 20th, finals in July

MathWorks, a leading developer of technical computing software, has begun recruiting AI talent in a variety of fields.
MathWorks announced on the 25th that it will hold the '4th MATLAB University AI Competition' to help domestic university students develop their ability to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology and strengthen their competitiveness in their specialized fields.
Participants in the competition will be provided with a free license for MATLAB, the company's flagship product used by engineers and scientists at global companies to build AI-based systems, during the participation period.
MathWorks has been supporting software for four years since 2021 to help college students more easily use artificial intelligence technology to solve problems through this competition.
In 2023, approximately twice as many students as in 2022 participated and implemented AI applications and models using MATLAB.
This year, MathWorks, the organizer of the event, has doubled the prize money to encourage more participants and produce outstanding research results.
Among the three teams that advance to the finals, the first place winner will receive a prize of 2 million won, the second place winner will receive 1 million won, and the third place winner will receive 500,000 won.
The judges of this competition saidWe plan to assess the proficiency of using MATLAB and MathWorks tools and determine which specific MATLAB features were used at each step of the workflow as the main tool for AI.
Additionally, we plan to further evaluate the level of technical competency of participants through an evaluation of correct usage and feasibility of operations.
Kim Kyeong-rok, sales manager for educational institutions at MathWorks Korea, said, “As artificial intelligence models are increasingly being applied in the medical industry and other safety-critical industries, MATLAB is also being utilized to support deep learning and effectively process data.” He continued, “Through this competition, I hope that students will identify pressing issues in specialized fields where artificial intelligence is applied and feel a sense of accomplishment through the opportunity to create, implement, and verify solutions themselves.”
Any student enrolled at a domestic university can participate in the competition as an individual or team, regardless of major.
Students wishing to participate in the competition must be able to select a problem occurring in an actual industrial setting or an existing conventional process and design an AI application or model to solve or improve it.
Applicants for the preliminary round must submit a description of their selected project topic and a solution implementation method using MATLAB through the contest participation form on the MathWorks Korea website (https://kr.mathworks.com/academia/student-challenge/2024/ai-challenge.html) from April 25 to June 20 at 6:00 PM.
After that, the preliminary evaluation results will be individually notified by email, and those who pass the preliminary evaluation must submit their project videos and codes between July 1 and 31 for the final evaluation.
