Very low power consumption of less than 1uA in sleep mode… Can be directly installed in devices such as power tools
It can also be installed smoothly in industrial equipment drives such as drones, robots, pumps, and process automation systems. STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, today announced the availability of its EVLDRIVE101-HPD (High Power Density) motor-drive reference design, which features a three-phase gate driver, an STM32G0 microcontroller, and a 750W power stage on a circular PCB measuring just 50mm in diameter.
The board consumes very low power, less than 1uA in sleep mode, and is compact enough to fit directly into devices such as hair dryers, portable vacuum cleaners, power tools, and fans.
It can be easily installed in drives of industrial equipment such as pumps and process automation systems, as well as drones and robots.
This reference design is implemented with ST's STDRIVE101 three-phase gate driver and provides flexible motor-control strategies such as trapezoidal or field-oriented control (FOC) with sensored or sensorless rotor position detection.
The STDRIVE101 IC contains three half-bridges with 600mA source/sink capability and operates from 5.5V to 75V, allowing it to handle all low-voltage applications.
The chip integrates voltage regulation for the high-side and low-side gate drivers and configurable drain-source voltage (Vds) monitoring protection.
It also provides external pins to directly select high-side and low-side gate inputs or PWM control.
Developers can interact with the microcontroller using the STM32G0's Single-Wire Debug (SWD) interface, and support for direct firmware updates lets them fix bugs and implement new features.
The power stage of the EVLDRIVE101-HPD reference design features the STL220N6F7, a 60 V STripFET F7 MOSFET, which maintains efficiency with a typical Rds(on) of 1.2 mΩ and facilitates plug-and-play connection of the motor.
Additionally, there is a fast power-on circuit that shuts down the power source during idle conditions to save energy and extend the operating time of battery-operated applications.
The safety and efficiency of the system are ensured through protection functions built into the driver IC, such as Vds monitoring for power stage MOSFETs, UVLO (Under-Voltage Lockout), overheating protection, and cross-conduction prevention.
The ready-to-use EVLDRIVE101-HPD is available now from eSTore for $92.
