Providing in-depth expertise based on diverse semiconductor experience
Young-Kwon Son has been appointed as a new director to the Arm board of directors, and is expected to provide in-depth expertise based on his diverse semiconductor experience.
Arm announced on the 12th that it had appointed Young Sohn as a new board member.
The new director, Young Kwon Son, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of HARMAN, Senior Advisor to Samsung Electronics, Board Member of Cadence, and Founding Managing Partner of Walden Catalyst.
Director Young-Kwon Son is expected to provide deep expertise to Arm as it continues to grow in key markets and provides the foundational computing platform for the AI era, drawing on his diverse experience in business development, investment strategy, and sustainability in the semiconductor industry.
“Son’s extensive experience will be an invaluable asset to Arm as we diversify our business and work to solve the very real and complex computing challenges of the AI era,” said Rene Haas, Arm CEO. “He brings an exceptional track record of leadership at some of the world’s leading semiconductor companies, and I look forward to working closely with him as Arm continues its journey to define the future of computing.”

Additionally, Arm will formally appoint Tony Fadell as a strategic advisor, leveraging his extensive industry knowledge and experience.
Director Young Kwon Son is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur dedicated to nurturing and building businesses around emerging technologies that have the potential to change the world for the better.
Most recently, he served as President and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Samsung Electronics, where he led strategies for global innovation, investment, and new business creation, and led the $8 billion acquisition of HARMAN International.
Prior to joining Samsung, he worked in Silicon Valley building and expanding businesses in key technology areas such as semiconductors and storage, and served as CEO of Oak Technologies, Avago (then Agilent), and Inphi.
He also took PLX Technologies, Synnex Technologies, and Infi public while serving as CEO or board member.
Director Young Kwon Son co-founded Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), the world’s largest startup competition for entrepreneurs solving global challenges.
He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
