Expansion of special gases for semiconductors
Wonik Materials (CEO Han Jeong-wook) will invest 110 billion won in an industrial special gas manufacturing plant in the Ochang Technopolis Industrial Complex by 2028.
On the 18th, Wonik Materials, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, and Cheongju City signed an investment agreement for the construction of a new special gas manufacturing plant for industrial use such as semiconductors and displays at the opening ceremony of the Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Office.
This investment agreement was attended by North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan, Cheongju City Vice Mayor Shin Byeong-dae, and Wonik Materials CEO Han Jeong-wook.
With this agreement, Wonik Materials will operate its third business site in Cheongju City, following the Yangcheong and Ochang sites.
Wonik Materials plans to start construction of its first factory in January next year on a 91,481㎡ site in the Ochang Techno Valley Industrial Complex and invest 110 billion won in the first phase over three years.
Wonik Materials, which decided on this investment, is a specialized manufacturer of high-purity special gases used as materials in the semiconductor and display production processes. By domestically producing high-purity special gases that previously relied on imports, it not only reduced costs but also contributed to strengthening the international competitiveness of Korea's semiconductor industry.
In addition, the company is actively participating in the government's employment policy and sparing no effort to create quality jobs, to the extent that it was selected as the 'Top Employment Company in Korea' by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2020 and 2024.
Han Jeong-wook, CEO of Wonik Materials, said, “We are in the advanced industry sector such as semiconductors.“We decided on this investment because of Chungcheongbuk-do’s high status in the region, the locational strengths of Ochang in Cheongju, and the proactive administrative services of Chungcheongbuk-do and Cheongju,” he said.
