Databricks' first Korean branch manager, Jeong-Wook Jang, announced his inaugural address on Tuesday, saying he will focus on promoting the adoption of the lakehouse platform in the Korean market.
Databricks announced on the 17th that it has appointed Jang Jeong-wook as the first CEO to lead its Korean branch.
Databricks, which officially launched its Korean branch last April, is expected to further accelerate its advance into the domestic market through the appointment of this branch manager.
Jang Jeong-wook is a veteran in the IT and cloud industry with over 20 years of experience, having held key positions in leading global companies. Prior to joining Databricks, he served as the CEO of Kyndryl Korea, IBM GTS Korea, and AWS Korea.
Based on this rich experience, CEO Jang Jeong-wook will lead Databricks’ overall Korean business going forward. In particular, CEO Jang Jeong-wook plans to focus on supporting domestic companies’ smooth introduction of Lakehouse and, through this, promoting the modernization of data platforms across industries.
Ed Lenta, SVP and GM of Databricks Asia Pacific and Japan, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Jang as our first Country Manager for Korea. “With his experience leading fast-growing organizations, I believe he will take Databricks’ Korean business to the next level,” he said. “Korea is a country with a robust digital infrastructure and is emerging as a market that is leading the development and innovation of AI technology. We look forward to accelerating the adoption of future data architectures in this important market through Databricks’ Lakehouse platform.”
“Data today is the key to maximizing the potential of AI and driving digital innovation across all industries,” said Jang Jeong-wook, CEO of Databricks Korea. “As domestic companies are actively pursuing digital innovation and AI adoption and the government is also expanding related support, we hope that companies of various sizes will be able to achieve innovation based on an integrated and modernized data platform through Databricks’ Lakehouse platform.”
Meanwhile, Databricks counts various companies including Amorepacific, Musinsa, Bagelcode, Devsisters, and Weverse Company as its clients in the Korean market, and is helping them improve their customer experience and overall business operations through data-driven insights using AI.
