5G Specialized Network-Cloud Tech Convergence Building… Autonomous Driving Robot Operation
Samsung Electronics and Naver Cloud are joining hands to expand the commercialization of the 'Eum5G (5G specialized network)' service and take the lead in building a domestic and international 5G specialized network ecosystem.
Samsung Electronics and Naver Cloud announced that they will collaborate for the first 'Eum5G (5G specialized network)' service in Korea at Naver's second headquarters building '1784' in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.
'Eum 5G' is a communications network that utilizes 5G frequencies so that general companies other than telecommunications companies can directly build 5G networks. In Korea, 4.7GHz and 28GHz are allocated as dedicated frequencies for specialized networks and preparations are underway for commercial services.
Naver Cloud applied for a 5G specialized network in November of last year, and signed an MOU with Samsung Electronics in March for cooperation on 5G specialized network and cloud solution business.
This time, Samsung Electronics' dedicated 5G equipment was applied to '1784' to build the tech convergence building with the first 5G specialized network in Korea.
Naver Cloud said that with the introduction of this 5G specialized network, '1784' will be able to continuously test services such as artificial intelligence (AI), robots, and autonomous driving. In particular, it added that it plans to launch a 5G specialized network and cloud-based autonomous driving robot service.
Samsung Electronics' communication equipment, including the 5G-dedicated base station radio and compact core, connects communications between robots and the cloud. Samsung Electronics said that it has reflected the demand for large-capacity data uploads by increasing the upload frequency ratio of dedicated 5G equipment to about twice that of general communication networks (about 20%).
Samsung Electronics and Naver Cloud announced that the two companies will continue to develop business models based on 5G-cloud, such as cooperating to build new data centers in each Sejong City next year, and actively discover use cases.
Naver Cloud Strategy & Planning Director Sangyoung Han said, "'1784' is a building that combines Naver's cutting-edge technologies and is a testbed for future technologies, and it uses 5G-based clouds as its core." He added, "We will continue to work with Samsung Electronics to expand E-5G and enable more companies to achieve digital innovation based on the cloud."
Samsung Electronics Network Business B2B Group Managing Director Jang Yong said, "This collaboration with Naver goes beyond being the first domestic 5G network, and is the first case in which the vision and technological prowess of both companies for future technologies such as 5G, robots, and cloud have been combined to create various synergies." He added, "Samsung Electronics will continue to build a 5G specialized network ecosystem at home and abroad and create 5G specialized network business cases in various fields such as transportation, hospitals, schools, factories, and SOC facilities."
