MOU for cooperation between Incheon City and 6 other organizations
Government-funded research institutes are joining forces with local governments to launch a full-scale demonstration of next-generation 6G stereoscopic communication and revitalize the future aviation mobility industry.
On the 8th, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) decided to cooperate with six organizations including Incheon Metropolitan City in the plaza in front of Incheon City Hall to conduct a 6G stereoscopic communication demonstration and build a personal air vehicle (PAV) and urban air mobility (UAM) demonstration city.
Through this collaboration, ETRI, the main organization of the '6G Core Technology Development Project', will advance the 6G stereoscopic communication technology developed so far through testing and verification in Incheon City and proceed with actual communication implementation verification.
In the future, the two organizations will promote cooperation in the following areas: △ fostering hyperspace 6G technology and PAV/UAM industry, △ utilizing Incheon City’s test bed for hyperspace 6G technology and PAV/UAM operation and convergence, △ discovering cooperative national tasks and joint research, and △ utilizing ETRI’s autonomous flight technology and PAV airframe test bed.
In addition, ETRI plans to conduct a demonstration of the 'Temporary network provision technology based on aerial vehicles for disaster/safety response' using 5G+ technology on Jawoldo Island, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, prior to the full-scale demonstration of 6G stereoscopic communication.
ETRI President Seung-chan Bang said, “We will take the lead in developing 6G stereoscopic communication technology by establishing a 6G demonstration cooperation system with Incheon City, which is focusing on fostering the PAV/UAM industry, and in activating the 6G-based future aviation mobility industry.”
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok also said, “We will utilize the PAV and 6G developed in Incheon to operate personal aircraft and promote the Pabrandmark City, a tourism complex resort with tourism and leisure activities.”
In 2021, ETRI was selected as the main organization for the '6G Core Technology Development Project' in which 37 joint research institutes, including mobile communication service providers, Samsung Electronics, and KAIST, participated.
With this agreement as an opportunity, ETRI plans to expand its support for local governments to foster 6G-based industries as well as discover key services based on 6G stereoscopic communication.
