Verification of Virtual Base Station Equipment Survivability Technology for 6G
Automatically resolves base station issues…maintains network quality
LG Uplus and Nokia have successfully verified 6G cloud technology, making it possible to maintain network quality without service interruption.
LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that it successfully verified 6G cloud technology that enhances the survivability of virtualized base station equipment in preparation for 6G together with global telecommunications equipment manufacturer Nokia.
In the 6G era, uninterrupted network operation is expected to be the most important factor. To this end, LG U+ has verified technology to provide stable services to customers through the 'Auto Healing' function that automatically resolves problems when problems such as △base station hardware failure △line problems between base stations △base station software failure occur.
LG U+ said, “If this technology is commercialized, when traffic increases, we can use cloud equipment to expand the capacity and performance of equipment, and take measures to automatically recover from failures that occur during network operation.” In addition, by automatically deploying applications necessary for recovery when a network failure occurs, it will be possible to maintain network quality by improving work efficiency.
Previously, LG Uplus verified a common platform for building a cloud base station with global platform manufacturers at its Magok office building. We are continuously researching cloud technologies to improve network equipment survivability, such as building a 5G core equipment backup network on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
LG Uplus said, “We are continuously pursuing new technology verification and preparing for 6G to provide the best network quality to our customers.”
Lee Sang-heon, LG Uplus NW Advanced Development Manager, said, “Network operation without service interruption will be a key task for 6G,” and “To this end, LG Uplus will continuously research next-generation network technology to provide stable services to customers by applying the latest DX technologies, such as AI and cloud, to the network infrastructure.”
Nokia Korea CEO Taeho Ahn said, “Technologies that integrate openness, virtualization, and intelligence functions enable efficient and flexible network construction,” and “We will also continue to collaborate with LG U+ for successful future network evolution.”
