Ministry of Science and ICT holds a public-private joint special team meeting to inspect 5G mobile communication services

On April 30, the Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting of the '5G Mobile Communication Service Inspection Public-Private Joint Special Team' with mobile carriers and manufacturers in the Ministry of Science and ICT conference room to discuss key issues and solutions related to 5G service quality.

As of April 22, the number of 5G base stations, which have the greatest impact on service quality such as 5G service coverage, was found to have increased by 7% from 50,512 stations (110,751 devices) to 54,202 stations (117,001 devices).

The number of 5G subscribers is approximately 260,000 as of April 29, and the three mobile carriers stated that while complaints about inconveniences related to 5G have been steadily decreasing compared to the early days, they are continuously working on optimizing base stations, equipment, etc. as user inconveniences may occur in various usage situations.

Following the last meeting, the three mobile carriers and manufacturers agreed to improve the phenomenon of the top bar of a mobile phone displaying 5G even when only LTE is actually being used when there is a 5G base station nearby, and to promote the development and distribution of related software by May so that the service actually being used can be clearly displayed.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has a special team Before the meeting, we visited nearby dealerships and sales outlets to check the status of user guidance related to 5G mobile communication subscription.

Based on this, the Ministry of Science and ICT emphasized that in order for users to clearly understand key information such as the status of 5G services and subscribe to the service, proper guidance needs to be provided at frontline agencies and sales outlets, and requested that the three mobile carriers faithfully provide on-site education.

Accordingly, the three mobile carriers decided to thoroughly conduct related on-site training and actively review measures to minimize user inconvenience.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on the 9th, and the Ministry of Science and ICT, mobile carriers, and manufacturers plan to do their best to faithfully implement the matters discussed at the '5G Service Inspection Public-Private Joint TF' meeting and improve the quality of 5G services.
