▲ETRI researchers discussing blockchain technology research and development
Key technologies for big data storage, analysis, and management
Jeju Island Collaborative Space Creation, Promoting Demonstration
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has begun full-scale development of core blockchain technologies.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on the 12th that it has embarked on developing core technologies that can store, manage, and analyze large amounts of blockchain data at high speeds in cooperation with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
ETRI is leading the research in the strategic field of ‘Data Sovereignty Guaranteed Blockchain Data Management Technology’, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, a joint research institute, is responsible for securing empirical data and supporting field application.
First of all, ETRI is not simply focusing on security when storing blockchain data, but is also developing an index based on time series, space and time, events, and content to enable quick search of information.
When this technology is developed, it will be possible to efficiently manage information and perform complex data analysis.
We are also developing a data distributed storage technology that guarantees Byzantine fault tolerance.
We have developed a technology to distribute large-scale, high-capacity data and store it directly on the blockchain, thereby ensuring data reliability. I can guarantee it.
In addition, it is possible to reduce duplicate storage of blockchain data, thereby increasing the efficiency of storage space compared to existing methods.
This technology enables the implementation of various application services that require data reliability, integrity, and ownership assurance.
In particular, it is expected to be widely used in fields where trust is important, such as finance, law, medicine, and real estate.
In August, the research team secured a collaborative space at the Jeju Industry-Academia Convergence Center to strengthen the on-site collaboration system for in-depth research and cooperation between local governments.
A blockchain data server will be installed in the space to collect and secure various data within Jeju Island.
The plan is to review available public data, discover areas that require trust-guaranteed data services, and promote verification of core blockchain technologies.
Kim Ki-young, head of ETRI’s Blockchain and Big Data Research Group, said, “Research on core technologies to increase the usability of domestic blockchain technology in various industrial fields has begun in earnest. By 2025, when the project is completed, we will elevate core technologies related to blockchain and big data to a world-class level.”
