Edge AI, which has been in the spotlight in the technology field, is now rapidly increasing in number as more and more companies have passed the product development stage and reached commercialization in the market in areas such as image security, IoT devices, vehicle solutions, and wireless communications. In the midst of this, the embedded industry, which is the foundation of digital transformation through edge AI, gathered together to strengthen its commitment to expanding related industrial technologies and strengthening the ecosystem.

The Embedded Software and Systems Industry Association (KESSIA) held the 21st Embedded Software and Systems Industry Association general meeting at the E-Tower in Seoul on the 6th.

KESSIA is a private association established with the goal of creating new business models in the embedded industry and revitalizing the embedded industry through win-win cooperation. Hancom Intelligence CEO Chang-geon Ji serves as the chairman, and embedded SW companies and related experts such as MDS Tech, FA Linux, KMS Technology, Hyperus, Bit Computer, Intel Korea, and Orchestra are participating in its activities.

On this day, KESSIA discussed the following: △2022 business performance report and settlement (draft), △2023 operation plan and budget (draft), △introduction of new member services, and △other development directions for the industry.

At this regular general meeting, in order to protect corporate technology, attorney Noh Hyeong-rae of Soul Law Firm, an advisory attorney for the association, gave a special lecture on the topic of ‘Legal interpretation and issues regarding trade secrets and prohibition of former employment.’

Chairman Ji Chang-geon emphasized the growing importance of embedded SW, along with his remarks on the “Current Status of Expanding Application of Embedded Technology in Major Industries and the Importance of Technology Introduction,” and said, “It is a time when the development of Edge AI technology is necessary for digital transformation (DX) that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology in various industries. We will ensure that the Embedded Software and Systems Industry Association takes the lead in leading the next generation of various industries through the development and expansion of embedded technology, the foundation of Edge AI computing.”

Chairman Ji Chang-geon is committed to the development and unity of the embedded industry. We plan to expand the collaborative activities between member companies that had been hampered by COVID-19 and establish a channel for mutual growth.

In addition, the association announced that it would form a planning group of experts from various industries and embedded SW to revitalize embedded SW research and development (R&D), which has been stagnant, and support the active activities of embedded-related companies and experts.

The association office announced that it will work to solidify its role as the only embedded SW organization in Korea by improving and expanding the existing definition and classification of embedded SW to actively develop and spread industrial embedded AI products, which are being emphasized as the importance of AI convergence technology has been highlighted in various industries recently.
