ITU-T Final Approval of AI Full-Stack Architecture Interoperability Specification
Expanding AI Partnership…Global Telecommunications Company and Juryul Driving Company Join Hands
SKT is accelerating the expansion of its AI ecosystem as its AI technology and service capabilities are recognized.
SKT announced that its proposed AI integrated package, 'AI Full Stack Structure and Interoperability Specifications', was finally approved as an ITU-T international standard at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) SG 11 held in Geneva, Switzerland from October 16 to 20.
The final standard approved this time standardizes the essential technology components, structure, and linkage method of the AI integrated package (AI full stack) submitted by SKT to ITU-T in December 2021. SKT's AI-based research results led by the company have been circulated to ITU-T international member countries and recognized as an international standard.
'AI Full Stack Structure and Interconnection Specifications' is a case where each technology element, such as hardware and software required to implement AI services, is connected and standardized as an integrated package. SKT classified and defined the essential technology elements of AI Full Stack into four major modules: △AI Processor △AI Memory and Storage △AI Learning and Model Optimization △AI Application. By standardizing the architecture, signaling methods, message specifications, and data types for interconnection and optimization between each element, we have enabled different AI technology components to be organically combined with each other.
SKT will continue to proactively pursue global standards for AI service development processes and expand the application of AI full-stack to various fields.
SKT has applied AI full-stack technology across various industries, including AI healthcare, AI semiconductors, AI media, and AI security, as well as the pet medical AI service X Caliber with new features. It plans to use this as a technological foundation to drive service innovation and external cooperation in line with the 'SKT AI Pyramid Strategy' in the future.
In this standard, AI processor technology that performs AI data learning and inference operations and memory and storage technology that stores and processes ultra-high-speed AI big data are utilized to strengthen the AI infrastructure and AIX structure among the pyramid strategies.
In addition, AI application technologies that are linked to various services and systems, and technologies that create and optimize AI models suitable for industrial fields can be widely utilized in AI personal assistants (PAAs), service innovation, and expansion of external cooperation, and can serve as core technology elements of the AI pyramid strategy.

▲SKT and Deutsche Telekom jointly develop 'Telecommunication AI Large Language Model (LLM)'
In particular, SKT is actively cooperating with AI companies and telecommunications companies in generative AI business to jointly develop LLM (Large Language Model). On the 22nd, the first result of the Global Telco AI Alliance was an agreement with Deutsche Telekom. SKT said, “The Telecommunications LLM has a higher level of understanding of the telecommunications service-related field than the general LLM and can also understand user intentions well, so it is expected to be suitable for customer services such as AI call centers.”
SKT is continuously expanding its partnerships across all sectors. On the 23rd, it joined hands with Masauto, a truck autonomous driving startup, to cooperate in AI large truck autonomous driving advancement business. The two companies plan to develop more stable and advanced autonomous driving technology through driving data collection and AI analysis required for autonomous cargo transportation in the middle mile (logistics movement between companies).
Lee Jong-min, head of SK Telecom’s Future R&D, said, “This international standard approval is significant in that the AI technology capabilities and service know-how that SK Telecom has accumulated over the years have been recognized as a global standard by the ITU-T, a credible international standards organization.” He added, “SKT will continue to expand the AI technology ecosystem through continuous cooperation with players in the AI and industrial fields.”
