Controlling IoT devices and IPTV with voice for patients with mobility issues LG Uplus announced that it will build a smart hospital that applies artificial intelligence services together with the Central Veterans Hospital.
To this end, the two companies formed a dedicated task force in January consisting of LG U+ ICT experts and Central Veterans Hospital's clinical and hospital administration experts to select short-term and mid- to long-term projects necessary for building a smart hospital, and agreed to cooperate with each other to promote and conduct joint research on these projects.
In particular, LG U+ is building the 'U+ AI Smart Hospital Room', the first in Korea to be equipped with AI speakers, IoT devices, and IPTV in the hospital room.
The U+ AI smart ward is tailored to the characteristics of patients at veterans hospitals, where many are elderly. Patients with limited mobility can easily control IoT devices and IPTV in their ward with their voices using the U+ Our Home AI service, and it provides psychological and psychiatric treatment content using music through AI speakers for the elderly and dementia patients.
In addition, the Pediatrics and Adolescent Department also operates a relaxation program tailored to the children's level, allowing them to find stability while waiting for treatment by listening to fairy tales from U+ Our Home AI's 'Woongjin Book Club' or watching content from 'U+tv Kids' World'.
Through the operation of this testbed, the Central Veterans Hospital plans to collect feedback from patients and medical staff, derive additional improvements, and concretize the direction of AI introduction.

also As a mid-term project, the two companies aim to provide patients with necessary information, such as prescribed medication and the corresponding medication cycle, along with basic hospital information such as ward location and consultation hours, or conduct surveys to collect basic information from patients visiting the hospital for the first time as an outpatient, using AI speaker-based artificial intelligence services.
LG U+ and the Central Veterans Hospital plan to continue to study and develop the operational results of this project and expand their application to various medical business areas such as actual patient treatment processes, hospital affairs, administration, and IT in the future.
Meanwhile, in order to proceed with this smart hospital construction project, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on business cooperation on 'construction of a smart hospital through introduction of Veterans Hospital AI solution' at the Central Building of the Veterans Hospital, with the attendance of Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo of LG Uplus and Director Lee Jeong-yeol of the Veterans Hospital.
LG Uplus Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo said, “We hope that this joint project to build a smart hospital by combining the capabilities and technologies of both companies will help provide better medical services and revitalize new medical businesses in the future.”
Lee Jeong-yeol, the director of the Central Veterans Hospital, said, “This agreement is expected to be an important opportunity to elevate the level of medical services at the Central Veterans Hospital to the next level by applying AI technology to the medical field through active research utilizing the core resources and expertise of both institutions.”
The MOU signed this time is valid until 2022, and the two companies agreed to mutually cooperate in the following areas: ▲establishing a pilot smart ward using AI speakers, IoT, etc., in the hospital; ▲joint research on applying AI technology to medical services; ▲application of AI technology in diagnosis, nursing, pharmacy, hospital affairs, administration, and computer fields; ▲sharing data and information for AI introduction; ▲cooperation in preparing for AI introduction, progress, and sharing of results.
