Picocom is supplying open LAN products to Contela and is making a full-fledged foray into the Korean market.


Picocom, a 5G Open RAN (O-RAN) baseband semiconductor and software company, announced on the 8th that Contela (CEO Park Soon), a domestic wireless communications equipment development and manufacturing company, will utilize Picocom's PC802 5G NR/LTE baseband SoC and related PHY software for their upcoming 5G Open RAN Distributed Unit (O-DU) and Open RAN Radio Unit (O-RU) products.

Contela plans to provide advanced wireless network products that meet customers’ ongoing needs by leveraging the performance, flexibility and scalability of Picocom OpenLAN products.

“Contela will leverage Picocom’s stable of semiconductors and software to provide our customers with cutting-edge OpenLAN wireless products and expand our capabilities to remain competitive in the ever-evolving communications industry,” said Park Soon, CEO of Contela. “The immediate availability of the PC802 baseband SoC and its software for commercial equipment means that we have already begun developing commercial products. “With Picocom’s technology roadmap, Contela will continue to adapt to market demands,” he said.

Picocom’s PC802 chip product for developing OpenLAN distributed units (O-DU), radio units (O-RU) and integrated small cells has already entered the mass production stage with stabilized software. PC802 can operate in dual mode in 4G LTE and 5G NR mode in one device.
