Design and performance recognition, brighter and clearer true color implementation
SCHOTT's CERAN Luminoir™, which implements brighter, clearer true colors on electric range tops, has won the 'iF Design Award 2022', recognition for its design and performance.
Schott announced on the 19th that Seran Luminuwa™ recently won the prestigious design award, the 'iF DESIGN AWARD 2022'.
SCHOTT's next-generation glass ceramic, which enables brighter, clearer true-color LED lighting displays, has been recognized for its superior design and performance.
With its new material composition, Seran Luminuwa delivers brighter and clearer LED lighting installed under the cooktop.
In particular, it has expanded the possibilities for intuitive and dynamic design by implementing various colors more clearly as well as white and blue light, which are suitable for smart displays.
Additionally, it saves time and cost because there is no additional process.
This year, more than 11,000 products were submitted to the 'iF Design Award', hosted annually by Germany's International Forum, the oldest independent design organization, and Seran Luminuir was selected as this year's winner in the 'Kitchen' category of the 'Product' section.

Seran Luminuir increases special light transmittance with new properties alone, without any additional filters or coatings, and produces white light that is five times clearer than conventional ceramic tops.
Additionally, the glass ceramic top is more transparent, allowing white and blue light to pass through brightly and clearly, while maintaining the deep black color of the top.
“CERAN Luminuwa is the next generation of cooktops for smart cookware. It enables consumers to operate their electric hobs in a safer and more intuitive way, and the range of available lighting colors expands the design and functionality of electric hobs. For example, this can enhance visual feedback when cooking or blend in more naturally with the surrounding lighting,” explains Dr. Jorn Besinger, Head of Product Management & New Business Development at SCHOTT CERAN®, explaining the potential uses of SCHOTT CERAN Luminuwa.
He added that as the popularity of electric range products increases, consumer demand for such smart features and designs is increasing in general product lines as well as premium products.
SCHOTT has already won the iF Design Gold Award in 2019 for its Seran Excite® solution, the most versatile portfolio of lighting solutions on the market today.
“The fact that Seran Luminuir has once again won a design award shows that lighting is an essential part of the smart cookware of the future,” says Katrin Becker, Marketing Director at Short Seran. “Short aims to develop new materials and continue to provide inspiration for new trends in the home appliance industry,” said the company in its acceptance speech.
Since SCHOTT launched its black glass ceramic for cooking, Ceran, in 1971, Ceran has sold over 200 million units worldwide and has become the standard material for electric range tops in modern kitchens. SCHOTT has been a driving force in leading kitchen design trends for over 50 years. The award-winning product, Ceran Luminuir™, is currently in discussions with domestic home appliance manufacturers.
