SK Materials (CEO Yong-wook Lee), a materials technology specialist, has expressed its will to accelerate the simultaneous achievement of Net Zero and RE100 by 2030.

SK Materials announced on the 1st that it published the Net Zero Report.

The report contains specific status, performance, and goals for four topics: △Meaning of the Net Zero Declaration and Time to Achieve the Target △Roadmap (Detailed Reduction Plan) for Realizing Net Zero and RE100 △Climate Change Governance △Climate Change Response Activities.

In particular, SK Materials clearly declared its affiliates' will to simultaneously achieve Net Zero and RE100 by 2030, including SK Specialty, and disclosed in detail in the report a mid- to long-term roadmap and implementation strategy to achieve the greenhouse gas reduction goal.

It also includes methods for practicing carbon neutrality throughout the entire product manufacturing process and efforts to develop eco-friendly technologies and materials such as next-generation batteries, high-efficiency displays, and CCUS.

In the field of climate change governance, major risks and opportunities were examined and evaluated based on climate change scenarios, and the resulting financial impacts were analyzed. In addition, based on the analysis results, a response strategy was established and a plan to manage the progress was presented.

Meanwhile, SK Materials' greenhouse gas reduction target includes both Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions within the organizational boundary), and in the future, it plans to expand the application to Scope 3 (indirect emissions outside the organizational boundary) to reduce greenhouse gases across all management activities.

It is expected that this will contribute to achieving the 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC, reducing emissions by 40% from 2018 levels by 2030).

SK Materials CEO Lee Yong-wook said, “This report contains SK Materials’ will to provide carbon-neutral value to customers early and elevate our contribution to global carbon reduction to a higher level,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen trust by transparently disclosing the process and results of achieving net-zero to various stakeholders.”
