Yeongju Central Market Activation Music Festival on the 12th and 13th
SK Specialty and social venture joined hands to revitalize traditional markets and support vulnerable groups.
SK Specialty (CEO Lee Gyu-won) announced on the 10th that it will support vulnerable groups by providing vouchers for viewing performances and purchasing traditional market products in conjunction with the 'Open Indie Door' music festival hosted by social venture Liqusquare to revitalize Yeongju's traditional market, Jungang Market.
Liqusquare is a company selected for the STAXX project, which discovers and fosters social ventures that can contribute to social value creation and local economic revitalization in Yeongju, for which SK Specialty applied for a 5 billion won donation. The company is seeking to revitalize the traditional market and local economy by commercializing the brewery it built in the central market as a tourist attraction. Liqusquare has a history of developing the 'Gompyo Wheat Beer', which was so popular that it once caused a 'sold-out frenzy', and is currently developing a brandy using Yeongju apples as the raw material, aiming to release it within the year.
'Open Indie Door' will be held at Jungang Market on the 12th and 13th. Liquor Square will hold the Indie Band Music Festival for the second time since last year to highlight the hidden charm of Jungang Market and breathe new life into the stagnant traditional market. This year, the lineup consists of 11 teams that stand out in the indie band scene, and the participation of artists from Yeongju, such as Oh Ye-rin, Lee Pull-sup, and Seo Ye-an, adds to the meaning.
SK Specialty will provide performance tickets and gift certificates for purchasing daily necessities and food and beverages at traditional markets such as Jungang Market to approximately 70 households from vulnerable groups. Through this, vulnerable groups are expected to have a special cultural experience, and traditional markets are expected to have an opportunity to stimulate consumption.
An official from SK Specialty said, “SK Specialty also sympathizes with the efforts of local social ventures to promote cultural enjoyment and revitalize traditional markets and has joined in providing support,” adding, “We hope that the traditional markets, which are a pillar of Yeongju’s economy, will be reborn as spaces that are loved and enjoyed by many people across generations.”
