AWS Supports AWS Direct Connect at Seoul ICN10
Utilizing dedicated lines...optimizing hybrid IT solutions
Digital Realty helps AWS customers optimize their hybrid IT solutions by connecting directly to AWS from its data center in Seoul.
Digital Realty held an online conference on the 7th and announced that it will support the new AWS Direct Connect On-Ramp at Digital Realty's ICN10 data center located in Seoul, allowing customers to access Amazon Web Services (AWS) services through a single cross-connection.
Digital Realty claimed that “Digital Realty’s Seoul customers can now build private infrastructure by connecting their private infrastructure to AWS Asia Pacific (Seoul),” “optimizing hybrid architecture solutions and leveraging low-latency, high-performance, secure and cost-effective connectivity to AWS.”
Recently, the exponential increase As data intensity intensifies, many companies are adopting hybrid IT architectures that utilize both on-premises and public clouds, along with cloud adoption, to handle data management in more depth. In particular, as Korea’s importance as a new and growing data center hub continues to grow, the domestic data exchange scale and demand for related data center services are expected to expand significantly in the coming years.
Digital Realty said that a leased data center called a multi-tenant data center (MTDC) would be an effective way for companies to deploy this architecture, as it allows them to build and manage all their network infrastructure in one place.
Digital Realty provides exclusive access to AWS Direct Connect for domestic data center customers through PlatformDIGITAL®, a global data center platform. This connects service providers and enterprises. Network service providers can provide services to enterprises based on strong connectivity on the platform.
'Direct Connect' is a dedicated line service that provides high throughput and consistency by building a fixed network rather than an Internet-based network to overcome the shortcomings of existing public clouds. It provides minimum network delay time and stable communication quality.
This allows customers to isolate sensitive data traffic to enhance security and privacy. It also provides low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnectivity to stabilize access from the public Internet. Moving large workloads is also smooth. Data transfer costs can be reduced by up to two-thirds.
“AWS Direct Connect lets you privately transfer data directly into and out of AWS from your data center, office, or colocation environment,” said Emad Benjamin, General Manager of AWS Direct Connect. Customers can choose dedicated 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, or 100 Gbps connections, or work with AWS Direct Connect providers like Digital Realty to get hosted connections with bandwidths from 50 Mbps to 10 Gbps.
Digital Realty said, "At ICN10 in Sangam DMC, Seoul, we will be able to connect to the AWS global network, build a hybrid network, and extend our existing network to AWS to process large-scale data sets in the petabyte range."
Digital Realty said, “For enterprise customers, having AWS Direct Connect connectivity in just one location is not enough,” and “It makes sense to interconnect more than one location because of the lack of resiliency.”
Meanwhile, Digital Realty is the world’s largest provider of cloud and network-neutral data centers, colocation and interconnection solutions. It operates over 300 global data center platforms in 50 cities around the world, including Korea, with over 5,000 users.
With the addition of Seoul as an onramp, Digital Realty’s PlatformDigital now hosts AWS Direct Connect Cloud Onramps in 17 cities around the world. Customers can leverage virtual access to AWS Direct Connect in any region via Digital Realty’s interconnection and orchestration solution, ServiceFabric™.
On that day, Digital Realty announced that it aims to achieve net zero in the Asia Pacific region as well as the US and Europe by utilizing 100% renewable energy. It is looking for ways to conserve water to use water efficiently and is developing strategies to achieve energy efficiency through various methods such as liquid cooling.
