Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials publishes 'Machine Industry Digital Transformation Technology White Paper'

Digital transformation in the machinery industry is emerging as a key driving force for innovation in the manufacturing industry.
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (President Ryu Seok-hyun) recently published the ‘Machine Industry Digital Transformation Technology White Paper’ and analyzed the current status of digital transformation and future development direction of the domestic manufacturing industry.
This report emphasizes that artificial intelligence (AI) digital transformation technology is a key factor in determining the competitiveness of the machinery industry.
The digital transformation of manufacturing is progressing toward maximizing productivity and reducing costs by utilizing new technologies such as AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and digital twins.
The introduction of automated and intelligent process management systems improves process efficiency and quality, and AI digital manufacturing innovation is becoming an important trend in the global market.
According to the report, AI digital transformation technology is being applied across the manufacturing industry from design to production and maintenance, changing the industrial paradigm.
Advances in industrial robots and digital twin technology are accelerating optimization of manufacturing processes, and domestic companies are also actively adopting these technologies.
Digital transformation is expected to increase the efficiency of production processes, reduce costs, and improve quality.
AI-based Predictive maintenance (PdM), real-time data analysis, and cloud-based manufacturing systems are being actively studied, with a focus on enhancing manufacturing competitiveness.
In this report, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials analyzed the major trends and future development directions of AI autonomous manufacturing technology and presented policy responses and strategies necessary for the Korean manufacturing industry to become globally competitive.
He also emphasized that it is essential to establish support measures so that domestic companies can successfully implement digital manufacturing innovation.
Park Jong-won, head of the DX Strategy Research Group at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, said, “Digital transformation is an essential task for the manufacturing industry, and the key is to increase productivity and competitiveness by incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as AI, IoT, and big data.” He added, “In order for the domestic manufacturing industry to stay ahead of the global competition, we need to further accelerate the introduction of AI digital technologies, and to this end, industry and research institutes must cooperate.”
Lee Taek-min, head of the Digital Twin Research Team at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, said, “The digital transformation of the machinery industry is an essential element for securing competitiveness in the global market,” and added, “To this end, the government and companies must work together to focus on expanding R&D investment and building infrastructure.”
The DX Strategy Research Group of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials was established on April 25, 2024 to effectively implement the DX vision and strategy in the mechanical field, secure digital twin technology, and build a mechanical data platform in response to digital transformation.
