C-ITS infrastructure built using V2X + V2N hybrid method

V2X and V2N utilization plans based on congestion and traffic density
Complementary technologies in terms of safety and financial efficiency

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced a plan to build a hybrid C-ITS infrastructure that utilizes V2X or V2N depending on regional traffic density.

On the 19th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it would strengthen the Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS) that supports autonomous driving through the 'Mobility Innovation Roadmap'.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been building communication infrastructure to expand the next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS), a transportation system in which automobiles directly communicate and cooperate with infrastructure (V2I) or other vehicles (V2V), and is supporting improved road safety and autonomous cooperative driving through this.

The significance of the content announced through this mobility innovation roadmap lies in the fact that it departs from the existing method of building C-ITS infrastructure by only considering direct communication (V2X) and plans to also use the V2N (Vehicle to Network) method that transmits information through mobile communication networks (hybrid method).

For C-ITS services that have a significant impact on safety, such as forward collision risk warnings in congested areas in urban areas, and require immediate data transmission with minimal delay over short distances, direct communication between vehicles and objects (V2X) is utilized in the existing manner.

On the other hand, for efficient infrastructure investment, existing commercial networks (V2N) will be utilized for large-capacity data transmission in areas with low traffic density or areas where some delays may have little impact on traffic safety.

The hybrid method improves safety It is expected to be utilized effectively as a complementary communication technology in terms of both efficiency and financial efficiency.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that additional research on V2X and V2N application sections will begin in 2023 and that decisions will be made after comprehensively considering road characteristics, traffic services, and construction costs.
