Construction of a buttiport within the K-2 rear area
Hyundai Elevator has begun building a UAM vertiport in Daegu, taking swift steps to dominate the UAM market.
Hyundai Elevator announced on the 19th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Daegu Metropolitan City to build a vertiport for urban air mobility (UAM).
At the signing ceremony held at Daegu City Hall on this day, Hyundai Elevator CEO Cho Jae-cheon, Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo, and other officials attended and exchanged opinions on the vertiport to be built within the K-2 backlog site.
Daegu City plans to build a UAM complex transfer center connecting neighboring cities such as Pohang and Gyeongju on the site of the existing Daegu International Airport and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport.
A transportation transfer center connecting UAM, KTX, subway, and express buses is planned to be built here. In addition, the establishment of convenient facilities such as public parking lots, commercial facilities, shopping centers, duty-free shops, and exhibition halls is also being promoted.
Hyundai Elevator is participating in Daegu City's 'K-2 Post-development Site Development Plan' and is responsible for building vertiports, which are the core of the UAM business.
Previously, Hyundai Elevator introduced the operating model of the H-PORT, a 'vertical containment vertiport' that is being promoted as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'K-UAM Safety Operation System Core Technology Development Project', in Daegu, drawing a positive response.
H-PORT is gaining attention from the industry as an alternative to overcome the limitations of vertiports that require large land and space like existing airports. Recently, interest has grown even more after being selected as an implementing agency for a national project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Cho Jae-cheon, CEO of Hyundai Elevator, said, “This business agreement will serve as a cornerstone for leading the UAM platform market based on H-PORT in the future.” He added, “We will actively cooperate so that the newly developed K-2 backlog site can leap forward as a future new growth city by serving as a next-generation transportation hub based on vertiport.”
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo said, “I expect that this agreement with Hyundai Elevator will serve as an opportunity to truly open up the skies by connecting TK New Airport, the K-2 site, and other major cities adjacent to it with UAM,” adding, “I will not spare administrative and policy support so that Hyundai Elevator can become the new global standard in the UAM field.”
Meanwhile, H-PORT is a building that can control integrated facilities such as a hangar utilizing an automatic parking system, automatic parking and charging facilities for drones, and a passenger boarding and disembarkation system. It is considered an alternative to overcome the limitations of vertiports that require large areas and spaces like existing airports by incorporating vertical and horizontal movement technology, which is Hyundai Elevator's core technology and strength.
