LG이노텍(대표 문혁수)이 BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy, 저전력 블루투스), NFC(Near-Field Communication, 10cm 이내 근거리 무선통신) 및 UWB(Ultra Wideband, 초광대역) 등 근거리 통신 기술이 모두 탑재된 최첨단 ‘디지털키(Digital Key) 솔루션’을 앞세워, 차량용 통신부품 시장 공략에 드라이브를 건다.
Significantly improved security compared to existing cellular-based long-distance communications
Smaller than a business card, contains over 60 parts including RF and power
LG Innotek (CEO Moon Hyuk-soo) is focusing on conquering the vehicle communication components market with its cutting-edge 'Digital Key' solution that is equipped with all short-range communication technologies, including BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), NFC (Near-Field Communication), and UWB (Ultra Wideband).
LG Innotek announced on the 22nd that it has developed a ‘next-generation digital key solution’ that significantly enhances the safety and convenience of passengers.
This product is a packaged product that includes not only a digital key module equipped with an antenna, circuits, etc., but also the software for operating the digital key.
It is equipped with short-range communication technologies such as BLE, NFC, and UWB.
UWB is a wireless communication technology that utilizes a wide bandwidth frequency that is less susceptible to radio interference than BLE, and plays a critical role in accurately measuring the location of a smartphone connected to a digital key.
The company's self-developed algorithm is additionally applied here to accurately detect the location of the smartphone within a margin of error of 10 cm. With industry-leading performance, it is expected to significantly reduce malfunctions or failures of existing digital keys.
As it operates based on short-range wireless communication, LG Innotek's 'next-generation digital key solution' has significantly improved security compared to the currently commercialized cellular-based long-range communication. This is because long-range communication has a wide coverage, so the risk of hacking through remote control cannot be ruled out.
In particular, the product has been equipped with the company's own wireless communication hacking prevention technology, so the digital key function is activated only on smartphone devices approved by the user. Thanks to this, the security issue that has been pointed out as the biggest vulnerability of connected cars has been resolved.
In addition, LG Innotek's next-generation digital key solution follows the latest standards of the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), a global digital key standardization organization. It can be used regardless of country, terrain, or vehicle type, and is also highly compatible with smartphone devices. It is designed to be compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems, enhancing user convenience.
In addition, it is equipped with a self-developed radar, providing additional functions that enhance safety and convenience.
A representative example is the 'Child-Presence-Detection (CPD)' function left in the vehicle. The radar immediately detects the child's movements or slight breathing, and sends an alarm to the smartphone in real time through an ultra-wideband signal.
In particular, this product is the smallest in the industry, and contains approximately 60 components and modules for supporting BLE and UWB wireless communications, including RF (Radio Frequency) components, power block components, and self-developed software, all in a solution smaller than a business card.
LG Innotek is targeting 2027 as the year for full-scale mass production of its next-generation digital key solution and is actively promoting it to global automakers.
CEO Moon Hyuk-soo said, “LG Innotek will foster vehicle communication components based on its unique wireless communication source technology as the core axis of its electrical components business,” adding, “We will continue to introduce products that provide differentiated customer value and solidify our position as a leading company in the global vehicle communication components market.”
