German Ambassador to Korea Visits Ulsan and Dangjin Factory Sites
Webasto Korea, an innovative system partner in the mobility industry, explored automotive collaboration between Korea and Germany through a visit to the Ulsan, Dangjin factory by the German Ambassador to Korea.
Webasto Korea announced on the 16th that German Ambassador to Korea Georg Schmidt, Deputy Ambassador Joern Weissert, and Economic Counselor Dennis Bloch visited.
They toured the Ulsan headquarters and production plant, checked on the growth status of Webasto Korea, and discussed the future of the Korean automobile industry and ways to cooperate between the two countries.
Since being incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Webasto Group in 2019, Webasto Korea has continued to grow and strengthen its position in the Korean market.
With a total investment of 350 million euros (approximately 500 billion won) in recent years, the Ulsan plant has established itself as the group's largest sunroof production base, and in 2022, it opened the world's first passenger car battery system production facility in Dangjin.
This year, we are further expanding the production capacity of our Dangjin plant to strengthen our role as a key supplier to the Korean automotive industry, and we are pursuing double-digit growth with the goal of achieving sales of approximately 500 million euros by 2025. This achievement reflects Webasto’s technological innovation, customer-centric strategy and commitment to building sustainable future mobility.
In addition, Webasto Korea is making various efforts to increase the sustainability of its factory operations as well as supplying eco-friendly mobility products. The solar panels installed on the roof of the Ulsan factory cover approximately 23% of the total power usage with renewable energy, contributing to reducing carbon emissions in the region.
German Ambassador to Korea Schmidt said during his visit, “German companies like Webasto are working closely with the Korean automobile industry to help develop sustainable mobility,” adding, “This is a good example showing the potential for German and Korean companies to grow together.”
Peter Willemsen, CEO of Webasto Asia Pacific, said, “The ambassador’s visit is a meaningful moment that demonstrates Webasto Korea’s growth, innovation, and sustainability in recent years,” adding, “We will continue to build long-term trust with Korean customers and expand our contribution to the future of mobility in the Asia Pacific region.”
