ON Semiconductor Unveils Devices with VE Trac Platform
Suitable for main traction inverters of electric vehicles such as BEV, PHEV, and HEV
Addition of design platforms such as VE Trac Dual and VE Trac Direct ON Semiconductor has introduced two new VE Trac power integrated modules (PIMs) that enhance power and thermal performance for high-voltage automotive traction inverters.
▲ VE Trac Dual <Photo = ON Semiconductor> The two newly launched devices are suitable for main traction inverters in all types of electric vehicles, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), and full hybrid vehicles (HEVs).
The VE Trac family of products includes discrete power devices, isolated gate drivers, and wide bandgap (WBG) devices, including extended module solutions.
With the launch of the VE Trac family, ON Semiconductor is also introducing two new traction inverter design platforms: VE Trac Dual and VE Trac Direct.
VE Trac Dual is a family of stackable and scalable Dual Side Cool (DSC) half-bridge modules in a compact footprint for traction applications that can be a platform solution for traction inverter applications from 80kW to 300kW with minimal mechanical redesign.
> The module delivers twice the performance of existing competitive products at 750V, 800A and achieves market-leading thermal performance by adopting high-efficiency double-sided cooling technology.
The first device to be released is the NVH820S75L4SPB, an AQG 324 certified module featuring built-in smart IGBTs for faster current and temperature overheat detection, providing a more robust solution than previous generations.
The absence of wire connections in the module doubles the life of the module, and will be used in emerging applications as additional VE Trac Dual platform devices are released, offering a range of power options including high voltage.
The first product to be released on the VE Trac Direct platform from ON Semiconductor is the NVH820S75L4SPB, an AQG 324 qualified module. The device uses a six pack configuration that is widely used and recognized by automotive OEMs and system providers, enabling multi-sourcing with minimal layout variation.
The VE Trac Direct platform, which will be available in products for a range of power levels, is designed to enable quick and simple power level adjustments to suit a variety of vehicle platforms and applications.
Both the VE Trac Dual and VE Trac Direct platforms can operate continuously at junction temperatures up to 175°C, enabling more power within a compact module solution footprint.
With this product launch, ON Semiconductor plans to expand its product portfolio to enhance device performance while also making it available to automotive system designers.
