SiC power components, far more efficient than conventional components
EV inverter production using SiC technology in 2025
Cooperation on development of 800V and 400V SiC inverters Vitesco Technologies, a subsidiary of Continental Group, announced on the 4th that it selected ROHM as its preferred supplier of silicon carbide (SiC) power components. The two companies also signed a partnership to develop power products for electric vehicles (EVs).

SiC power components can utilize the electrical energy of EV batteries more efficiently than conventional components. Vitesco expects demand for SiC solutions to increase significantly in the future and plans to start producing inverters equipped with SiC power components by 2025.
Vitesco is already applying and testing SiC technology in an 800 V type inverter under development.
Through this partnership, the two companies will work together to improve inverters equipped with SiC power components for mass production and to build systems that achieve maximum inverter efficiency.
“We will collaborate with ROHM not only on 800 V batteries, but also on SiC-based inverter solutions for 400 V batteries,” said Dr. Gerd Rösel of Vitesco’s Electrotechnology division.
