Lee Sang-won, current CEO of Lam Research Korea, has been appointed CEO of Lam Research Manufacturing Korea and Lam Research Korea Technology, and will oversee the Korean corporations.


Lam Research, a supplier of innovative wafer manufacturing equipment and services to the semiconductor industry, announced on the 4th that it has appointed Lee Sang-won, the current CEO of Lam Research Korea, as the new CEO of Lam Research Manufacturing Korea and Lam Research Korea Technology.

Sangwon Lee, CEO of Lam Research Korea, is a semiconductor industry expert with over 30 years of experience working for global semiconductor equipment companies.

He has achieved outstanding results in key functions including marketing, business development, and global customer business units at Lam Research and Applied Materials.

After serving as the CEO of Applied Materials Korea, he was appointed as the new CEO of Lam Research Korea in January 2021.

Lam Research Manufacturing Korea is Lam Research's global production base that celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. Beyond local sourcing of semiconductor equipment parts, it has served as a base for localizing equipment manufacturing production, and has played a role as a partner in the growth of the Korean semiconductor equipment parts industry.

In February, Lam Research announced the launch of an innovative line of high-selectivity precision etching equipment for the next-generation transistor structure, the Gate All Around (GAA) process, and that the line would be produced at Lam Research Manufacturing Korea.

Lam Research Korea Technology is Lam Research's most advanced, state-of-the-art semiconductor research facility outside the United States.

It is located in the Jigok Industrial Complex in Yongin City, the center of the K-semiconductor cluster, and will begin full-scale operations in the first half of this year.

We will showcase the industry's most advanced deposition and etching technologies for memory and logic applications.

By narrowing the geographical distance between Lam Research’s R&D facilities and its customers and suppliers, it is expected to shorten the learning cycle, provide customers with rapid solutions, and elevate the level of collaboration and the speed of innovation in the Korean semiconductor industry ecosystem.

We plan to strengthen collaboration for semiconductor hardware and process development by building a strong global network with Lam Research's research centers in the U.S. and Europe.
