Korea is continuously introducing digital infrastructure through advanced ICT infrastructure and investments in 5G, AI, and cloud. In 2019, it commercialized the world’s first 5G network, and currently more than a quarter of all mobile communications are made with 5G. Korea’s public cloud market is also growing, and it is expected to grow from USD 1.5 billion in 2018 to USD 3.1 billion in 2023, making the expansion of data center infrastructure essential.

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) announced on the 8th that it will establish a second data centre in Gasan-dong, Seoul.

The data center to be built in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul has a total floor area of 31,205 square meters and an IT capacity of 30 megawatts. It is located near Gasan Digital Complex Station and Doksan Station, and is adjacent to logistics facilities and knowledge industry centers. In particular, it was explained that it has the advantage of being a network-neutral data center because it is easily interconnected with data centers in Mokdong and Gasan.

“STT GDC’s second data center in Korea is a testament to our commitment to supporting the digital transformation of Korean industry,” said Bruno Lopez, Chairman of STT GDC. “We will focus STT GDC’s global data center capabilities on this Seoul project to meet customer needs that demand complex designs and flexible expansion.”

Meanwhile, the STT GDC 2nd data center will be built with the support of international institutional investors and Samsung Group’s Samsung SRA Asset Management. STT GDC explained that it will lease the data center building from Samsung SRA Asset Management and will complete the remaining facility work and begin service in the first half of 2025.
