SGS certified 'IECQ QC 080000' as free of hazardous substances
"Expectations for the spread of eco-friendly management in the semiconductor supply chain"
SK Hynix is strengthening its eco-friendly efforts with semiconductors free of hazardous substances.
SK Hynix announced that it has received the 'International Hazardous Substances Management System Standard - IECQ QC 080000' certification from SGS (Societe Generale de Surveillance), a Swiss international standard certification body that verifies the hazardous substance management capabilities required for the supply of eco-friendly semiconductors.
SK Hynix and SGS Korea held a certification ceremony on the 10th. Document and on-site audits were conducted on all products across the entire process, including development, production, and QA functions, at the Icheon and Cheongju campuses, and the company announced that it had successfully obtained certification. The award ceremony was attended by Song Jun-ho, Vice President of SK Hynix Global QRA Quality System, and Moon Seong-yang, President of SGS Korea.
IECQ QC 080000 is an international standard for product hazardous substance management based on ISO9001 (Quality Management System) issued by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
This is a management standard that reduces and eliminates the use and inclusion of substances harmful to the ecosystem, such as heavy metals and environmental hormones, and guarantees environmental sustainability to customers, employees, and shareholders, including compliance with various environmental regulations such as RoHS and WEEE.
To achieve this certification, SK Hynix established a task force in January of this year and has been working to establish a hazardous substance process. An internal audit was conducted in August. The certification audit conducted in September determined that the company met the IECQ QC 080000 requirements, securing certification for all semiconductor products produced at its Icheon and Cheongju campuses.
SK Hynix said it expects this opportunity to go beyond compliance with international environmental regulations and secure voluntary management capabilities, while also providing customers with eco-friendly semiconductors and strengthening its ESG management image with investors. Furthermore, SK Hynix's eco-friendly certification is expected to promote eco-friendly management practices throughout the semiconductor supply chain.
Song Jun-ho, Vice President of Quality Systems at SK Hynix, explained, “Based on SK Hynix’s continuous efforts to improve the eco-friendliness of its products, we have obtained IECQ QC 080000 certification. Through this certification, we have received international recognition for our systematic management of hazardous substances in SK Hynix products.” Vice President Song continued, “Through this, we will go beyond the existing quality assurance of performance and durability to a guarantee of being free of hazardous substances, and strive to establish ourselves as a global advanced company trusted by customers and the market.”
