High-performance SSD for PC 'PM9C1a'
1.8x speed, 70% power efficiency ↑

Samsung Electronics has launched a new high-performance SSD for PCs with improved performance through the 5nm controller and 7th generation V-NAND, realizing the highest level of performance and power efficiency.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 12th that it will mass produce the high-performance NVMe SSD 'PM9C1a' for PCs equipped with a new 5nm-based controller.

This is the first time that Samsung Electronics has installed a 5nm-based controller in a PC SSD.

Samsung Electronics applied the advanced 5nm foundry process to the 'PM9C1a' and equipped it with a new controller designed in-house and 7th generation V-NAND, realizing industry-leading performance and power efficiency.

The power efficiency per 1W (watt) of the 'PM9C1a' is improved by up to 70% compared to existing products, so the power consumed when performing the same amount of work on a PC is lower, and in power-saving mode of a notebook PC, power consumption is reduced by more than 10%.

Additionally, this product supports PCIe 4.0, making the sequential read speed 1.6 times faster and the sequential write speed 1.8 times faster than existing products. Sequential read and write performances are up to 6,000 MB/s and 5,600 MB/s, respectively, and random read and write performances are up to 900K IOPS and 1,000K IOPS, respectively.

'PM9C1a' provides a more enhanced security solution in line with the market trend of increasing importance of security.

This product newly supports the DICE (Device Identifier Composition Engine) standard, a cryptographic ID technology of the international security standards organization TCG (Trusted Computing Group).

The enhanced security solution can prevent supply chain hacking that modifies firmware during production or distribution by safely generating keys inside the SSD, and supports ‘device authentication’ and SSD ‘attestation to prevent firmware modification’ technologies.

Samsung Electronics plans to diversify the lineup of 'PM9C1a' to 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB in M.2 standards (22mm x 30mm, 22mm x 42mm, 22mm x 80mm) and expand the market through cooperation with global customers.

Samsung Electronics Memory Business Division Solution Development Office Vice President Song Yong-ho said, “The PM9C1a is a product that has all the important elements for PC users, such as high performance, low power, and security,” and “We will continue to lead the PC SSD market by developing products that meet various market needs.”
