Wolfspeed and ZF Friedrichshafen AG are establishing an R&D center in Germany for research on SiC electronics, taking a full-scale step forward to increase power density and improve performance of next-generation mobility electronics, including electric vehicles.

Wolfspeed announced on the 3rd that it will open an R&D center in Nuremberg, Germany, with ZF of Germany to optimize silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor technology.

The new research facility is supported by the German federal government and the Bavarian state government and must be approved by the European Commission under the EU's IPCEI (Important Projects of Common Interest in Europe) scheme.

Accordingly, the full-scale establishment of the R&D center will proceed after approval from the European Commission.

The joint research center targets the needs of all mobility sectors, including consumer, commercial, agricultural and industrial vehicles, as well as the industrial and renewable energy markets.

This includes improving the efficiency of electric vehicles and electrification solutions, increasing power density, and improving performance. Promote improvement.

We are also conducting research to dramatically improve the system design, module structure, and production process technology of related products.

In the future, both companies will leverage their membership in the European Centre of Power Electronics (ECPE) and share key research results at a European level.
