First U.S. Semiconductor Fab to Achieve LEED Version 4 Gold Rating
Texas Instruments (TI) has reaped the rewards of its long-standing efforts toward eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing at its new 300mm fab.
TI announced on the 4th that its new 300mm semiconductor wafer manufacturing plant, RFAB2, located in Richardson, Texas, has received the highest Gold rating under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building certification system version 4 (v4).
LEED certification is granted by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) through a rigorous review that comprehensively evaluates the sustainable design, construction, and operation of high-performance, eco-friendly buildings. TI's RFAB2 became the first fab in the U.S. and the fifth in the world to achieve LEED Gold status.

"We are proud that RFAB2 has achieved LEED Gold v4 certification, which is a result of TI's long-standing commitment to environmental care and responsibility."
TI’s RFAB2 fab, the fourth in the world to receive LEED certification, is designed to reduce water and electricity consumption. The new fab is expected to achieve the same efficiency as saving approximately 2.8 million tons (750 million gallons) of drinking water and about 80,000 MWh (megawatt-hours) of energy from the design phase through construction and operation.
The LEED Gold v4 certification is the result of TI’s years of effort to realize responsible and sustainable manufacturing while conserving natural resources, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing environmental impact.
