Next-generation single-chip UWB solution features reduced system costs and high security
Ensuring vehicle access safety and maximizing value in driver assistance and convenience applications NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXP) today announced the Trimension NCJ29D6, a fully integrated single-chip automotive ultra-wideband (UWB) product family.
NXP today unveiled a family of fully integrated automotive single-chip ultra-wideband products that combine next-generation security, real-time precision localization with short-range radar to address a range of use cases, including vehicle secure access, child presence detection, intrusion alerts and gesture recognition, all in a single system.
Devices in this family have been integrated into several key automotive OEMs and are expected to be in service in 2025 model year vehicles.
The family includes the automotive-grade NCJ29D6B and NCJ29D6A devices, making it one of the industry’s broadest UWB portfolios.
The highly integrated NCJ29D6B, a next-generation UWB device for secure vehicle access, delivers improved range performance, reduced system cost, high security, and turn-key software.
Meanwhile, the pin-to-pin compatible NCJ29D is the industry’s first automotive device to combine long-range and short-range UWB radar on a single chip with an integrated MCU.
br /> This allows OEMs to transform a single UWB-based vehicle access system into a fully versatile, multi-purpose platform, allowing the same hardware to be used for multiple applications, eliminating redundant systems and reducing cost, space and weight.
For example, a secure vehicle access system could be used to provide additional features such as child presence detection to comply with the US Hot Cars Act or the European NCAP roadmap.
This approach to access can reduce costs and speed time to market for new features by simplifying development and enabling OEMs and Tier 1s to introduce additional capabilities through software updates.
“UWB will drive the next evolution of the consumer automotive experience, and today’s announcement is just the beginning,” said Markus Staeblein, senior vice president and general manager of Secure Vehicle Access at NXP. “Automotive OEMs and Tier 1s will realize the benefits of a single system over time.”
