Strengthening competitiveness through technology exchange and international joint research to lead 6G
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of Korea has joined hands with the University of Oulu, Finland, a mobile communications and digital powerhouse, to lead 6G technology.
ETRI announced on the 10th that it had agreed to establish a mutual cooperation system with the University of Oulu, Finland, including technical cooperation, exchange meetings, and international joint research related to 6G mobile communications.
ETRI played a key role in establishing the IMT-2030 vision, which presents the direction of development of mobile communication technology through 2030 for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
We are focusing on securing core source technologies through 6G leading research.
In addition, ETRI is promoting cooperation with leading overseas technology-leading organizations to secure global competitiveness in the 6G mobile communications field.
With this agreement, cooperation between the two organizations is expected in the field of 6G, which is expected to be commercialized around 2030, including technological exchanges and international joint research.
ETRI President Seung-chan Bang said, “Through close research cooperation with leading European research institutes, we have created an opportunity for our country to play a leading role in the 6G mobile communications field and enhance our national competitiveness.”
Jouko Niinimaki, President of the University of Oulu, also said, “The field of mobile communications “We are delighted to be able to continue our research collaboration with ETRI, which is leading the way. We look forward to many collaborations in the future, including various technology exchanges and international joint research in the 6G field,” he said.
The University of Oulu plays a leading role in research in the field of ICT in Finland and is leading the 6G Flagship project, a national 6G project in Finland.
Meanwhile, the agreement signing ceremony held on this day was attended by the heads of both organizations, key officials including ETRI Stereoscopic Communication Research Center Director Baek Yong-sun, and Oulu University Vice President Arto Maaninen.
ETRI is an organization that has been working closely with the University of Oulu in the field of mobile communications.
They have been collaborating since 2019 for a demonstration of smart factory remote control technology in 2022, intercontinental VR service in 2018, and joint research on 6G.
In the future, the two organizations plan to cooperate to secure human networks, exchange technology through researcher exchanges, jointly contribute to international academic conferences and journals, and win international joint projects.
