Samsung Electronics succeeds in verifying the industry's first 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X operation, and is set to take the lead in low-power, high-performance LPDDR DRAM in the on-device AI era.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 16th that it has completed verification of the industry's fastest 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM operation with Taiwanese semiconductor design company MediaTek.

Through this verification of operation with MediaTek, Samsung Electronics has solidified its technological leadership in the low-power, high-performance DRAM market.

Samsung Electronics has completed verification of the 16GB LPDDR5X-based package product for MediaTek's latest flagship mobile AP 'Dimensity 9400' scheduled for release in the second half of this year, taking the lead in commercializing high-performance mobile DRAM.

The 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X developed by Samsung Electronics in April last year improved the operating speed and power consumption by more than 25% compared to the previous generation.

It is the optimal product for the era of 'on-device AI' that requires low power and high performance characteristics.

This product will allow users to get longer battery life from their mobile devices and take advantage of powerful on-device AI capabilities without being connected to a server or cloud.

JC Hsu, Senior Vice President of MediaTek, said: “Through close collaboration with Samsung Electronics, we have successfully verified operation for the first time in the industry by equipping MediaTek’s next-generation high-performance processor, Dimensity, with Samsung Electronics’ high-performance 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X,” the company said. “Going forward, users will be able to maximize battery performance and utilize more AI features on devices equipped with the latest chipsets.”

Samsung Electronics Memory Business Product Planning Vice President Bae Yong-cheol said, “Through strategic collaboration with MediaTek, we have verified the operation of the industry’s fastest LPDDR5X DRAM and proven that it is a customized solution for the AI era.” He added, “We will lead the AI smartphone market by providing solutions suitable for the on-device AI era in organic cooperation with our customers.”

Samsung Electronics plans to actively expand LPDDR DRAM applications in the future, including AI accelerators, servers, HPC, and automotive, as well as the mobile sector, based on active cooperation with customers.
