NXP CoreRide Expands...Enabling Scalable Vehicle Networks
OEM, Tier 1 SDV related network troubleshooting support
NXP Semiconductors today announced the launch of its new high-performance Ethernet switch and network controller family, the S32J family.
The S32J family shares NXP’s latest S32 microcontrollers, processors and common switch core, NXP NETC, which allows multiple products to work together as a single, scalable virtual switch.
The common networking switch core simplifies integration and software reuse with other solutions within the recently announced NXP CoreRide platform, providing OEMs with more efficient and reconfigurable networking choices.
The S32J supports 80 Gbps of bandwidth with ports ranging from 10 Mb to 10 Gb and dual Arm Cortex-R52 cores to address the requirements of new vehicle architectures. The S32J device is TSN automotive compliant and offers robust ASIL-D safety, Hardware Security Engine (HSE), and MACsec ports for mixed critical data traffic.
The combination of the S32J family and the NXP CoreRide platform provides a production-grade networking solution with pre-integrated software and tooling, including software support kits for HSE, MACsec security, TSN stack, remote configuration, and monitoring capabilities.
A virtual development kit for the S32J family is expected to be available in late 2024, with the full solution expected to be available to OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in 2025.
“To address the shift to software-defined vehicles (SDVs), OEMs need to simplify network architectures and reduce software and hardware integration complexity,” said Meindert van den Beld, senior vice president and general manager of in-vehicle networking at NXP. “The S32J and NXP CoreRide networking solutions provide production-ready building blocks for these new software-defined network architectures.”
“Sonatus and NXP are long-standing partners, and with our technologies already in millions of production vehicles, the new NXP CoreRide networking solution strengthens vehicle networking and NETC networking-based support across NXP products,” said Dr. John Heinlein, Chief Marketing Officer at Sonatus. “This will enable OEMs to accelerate the development of more adaptable and upgradeable architectures for SDV,” he said.
“TTTech Auto is excited to advance our vehicle networking solutions with NXP’s CoreRide networking platform,” said Dr. Stefan Poledna, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of TTTech Auto. “Integrating scalable and dynamically reconfigurable network management capabilities into TSN-based advanced Ethernet networks is critical to SDV development.”
Additionally, “TTTech’s MotionWise platform complements NXP’s CoreRide networking solution to provide a secure and flexible communication solution that helps OEMs and Tier 1s shorten development cycles, improve system reliability, and enable seamless end-to-end communications across vehicle networks,” he said.
