Voltage supply, communication bus I, monitoring function combination IC
Supports 5Mbit/s communication ISO CAN FD protocol
SW compatibility with other Infineon SBC product families
Infineon TLE9263-3BQX Infineon Technologies AG announced today the launch of two new System Basis Chip (SBC) families, Lite and Mid-Range+. These are the first SBCs supporting the ISO CAN FD protocol for 5 Mbit/s communication in a wide range of automotive applications.
SBC, which provides power and communication functions to the microcontroller in the automotive ECU, is an IC that combines voltage supplies, communication bus interfaces (CAN, LIN), and supervisory functions. By integrating the three functions into a single chip, it is possible to reduce system costs and achieve up to 80 percent smaller design footprint compared to discrete solutions.
Infineon's Lite SBCs are entry-level SBCs that are ideal for reducing system costs. They include one CAN transceiver and can be used in a variety of applications such as in-vehicle wireless chargers, NOx sensors, gear shifters, and lighting control units. The Mid-Range+ SBCs include one CAN and up to two LIN transceivers and are ideal for body control modules or gateway modules.
Automobiles increasingly require faster communication capabilities. The CAN FD protocol was developed for software updates in factories or service centers. Today, higher bandwidths and longer payloads are increasingly required for communication within the vehicle as well as for connectivity with the outside world. For example, high-end front lighting applications such as matrix LED lighting require large amounts of data from camera systems and sensors to eliminate high beam glare.
In addition to high-speed communication, the new SBC products can reduce power consumption. The optional partial networking function can be used to reduce current consumption by switching the ECU to sleep or stop mode when it is not in use. In addition, the Lite SBC family has a built-in charge pump to drive the high-side n-channel MOSFET. This allows the quiescent current to be further reduced by disconnecting the external load during sleep mode.
In addition, SBC products include diagnostic and monitoring functions such as undervoltage monitoring, resettable window watchdog, fail-safe operation mode, and fail-safe output to ensure functional safety of the ECU. In addition, the Mid-Range+ product family can drive external loads using four high-side switches.
The SBC products offer designers a high degree of flexibility. They are available in various configurations with regard to the number of communication interfaces and are software compatible with other Infineon SBC families, including the DCDC and Multi-CAN Power SBC families (TLE94x1, TLE926x, TLE927x).
