Flexible and secure infrastructure expansion for hybrid cloud environments
In addition to digital transformation, a secure infrastructure expansion solution is required to respond to a hybrid environment that mixes private and public clouds in a distributed environment.
IBM announced on the 8th that it is significantly expanding its Power10 server product line that modernizes, protects, and automates enterprise applications and IT operations.
IBM explained that the Power10 server provides improved performance, scalability and flexibility for customers looking to rapidly deploy new services in a variety of environments, and that this is serviced with a new usage-based pay-as-you-go model.
As digital transformation drives more and more organizations to modernize their applications and IT infrastructure, the new Power10 product is said to help run essential workloads and maximize the efficiency of containerized applications. The ecosystem based on Red Hat OpenShift helps customers connect workloads to new cloud-based services through collaboration.
The new Power10 lineup of products being released this time joins the Power10 E1080 server introduced last year to provide a secure hybrid cloud experience across customers’ IT infrastructures. Built with next-generation processors that have twice the cores and twice the memory bandwidth of previous generations, it supports important security features such as transparent memory encryption and advanced processor/system isolation. IBM cited the high level of security implemented by leveraging the Linux Foundation’s Open baseboard management controller (OpenBMC) project as an advantage.
In addition, IBM announced new flexible consumption offerings for IBM Power Private Cloud that provide pay-as-you-go options and metering capabilities by the minute. IBM Power Virtual Servers offer enhanced hybrid flexibility by adding benefits to existing options while enabling cost savings.
IBM continues to innovate on SAP solutions, with the newly announced E1050 providing scalability (up to 16TB) and performance for a four-socket system for customers running Rise with SAP on the IBM Cloud.
“In today’s dynamic environment, there is a lot of volatility in resources, people and technology – all of which impact both the short-term operation of a business and its long-term sustainability,” said Steve Sibley, vice president of IBM Power product management. “To improve business and operational resilience, you must make the right investments in IT. The new Power10 models provide customers with a range of hybrid cloud choices with the agility and automation to best fit their needs, without compromising performance, security or resiliency.”
