Introducing SUSE Linux, Maintaining Business Continuity and Security
Daegyo effectively overcame the risk of CentOS support termination by introducing a Linux operating system management solution. By introducing SUSE's 'SUSE Multi-Linux Support' and 'SUSE Multi-Linux Manager', the stability and efficiency of IT infrastructure were greatly improved.
SUSE recently announced that it has supplied a Linux management solution to Daegyo.
On June 30, 2024, Red Hat announced the end of support for CentOS 7, discontinuing official updates and security patches. Daekyo, which was operating over 200 on-premise instances on CentOS, had to find a new solution to transition the operating system.
After reviewing various solutions, Daegyo chose SUSE's cost-effective solution. It successfully transitioned by introducing 'SUSE Multi-Linux Support' and 'SUSE Multi-Linux Manager', which provide comprehensive services while being 50% cheaper than other suppliers.
'SUSE Multi-Linux Support' introduced by Daekyo played an important role in securing business continuity and operational stability. Support for continuous security updates and vulnerability management enabled us to maintain our Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification even after CentOS support ended.
It also contributed to building Daekyo’s IT infrastructure more robustly by enhancing operational flexibility and protecting customer data. Through the introduction of this solution, Daekyo was able to secure long-term operational stability while continuously protecting key IT systems.
'SUSE Multi-Linux Manager' has brought about a groundbreaking change in Daegyo's Linux server management method. It has simplified operations by introducing a centralized management system, moving away from the previous management method of having to access individual servers and manually apply updates and patches.
This solution enabled Daegyo to quickly apply security patches to all instances, reduce human errors by automating periodic password changes, Linux package installations, and deployment tasks, and improve the work efficiency of IT staff and provide a foundation for quickly resolving potential issues that may arise during business operations.
In terms of cost, Daegyo also achieved significant savings through the water purification solution. If it had chosen a different supplier solution, it would have cost more than twice as much as the water purification solution.
Kim Jun-woo, IT manager at Daegyo, said, “By introducing SuSe’s solution, we were able to minimize costs while maintaining stable operation until the end of the service,” adding, “If we had chosen another supplier, it would have taken 21 months to recover the investment and cost more than double.”
SuSe continues to provide active security support even after the solution has been introduced. For example, DaeKyo was able to quickly receive information about the recent OpenSSH vulnerability (CVE-2024-6387) and assess its potential impact. This enabled us to continuously maintain infrastructure security reliability and make quick decisions.
Through collaboration with SUSE, Daekyo plans to migrate to a Kubernetes-based cloud environment. Currently, Daekyo is evaluating 'SUSE Rancher Prime' to optimize containerized workloads, which will further strengthen the digital education environment.
We also plan to actively participate in various educational programs and SUSE webinars to expand our cloud infrastructure and open source technologies. This is a strategy to lay the foundation for long-term success in the rapidly changing digital education environment.
