Samsung Electronics and Korea University are establishing a new contract department with employment conditions and will provide customized education linked to employment to 30 students every year.

On the 17th, Samsung Electronics and Korea University held an agreement ceremony at the Korea University Seoul Campus, attended by Samsung Electronics Network Business Division President Kyung-Hoon Jeon and Korea University President Jin-Taek Chung, to establish the 'Next Generation Communications Department', which deals with next-generation communication technologies including 6G, as a contract department linked to employment in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Korea University plans to select 30 new students each year for the Department of Next-Generation Communications starting in 2023.

Students who enroll are guaranteed employment at Samsung Electronics after graduation, and full tuition and tuition assistance are provided as industry-academic scholarships during their period of attendance.

In addition, various experiential opportunities are provided, such as participation in the Samsung Electronics internship program and attendance at renowned overseas academic conferences.

The establishment of this next-generation telecommunications department is intended to proactively foster professional manpower who will lead the rapidly growing telecommunications market and to contribute to the expansion of technical manpower at the national level.

Samsung Electronics Network Business Division President Jeon Kyung-hoon said, “ In order to keep pace with the changes in the communications market where hardware and software technologies are converging, we have decided to establish the Next-Generation Department of Communications with Korea University to foster convergence talents specialized in the communications field,” he said. “We will actively support them so that they can contribute to the creation of new values for next-generation communications.”

Korea University President Jin-Taek Jeong said, “I hope that the combination of Korea University’s excellent educational resources, excellent faculty, and advanced administrative systems with Samsung Electronics’ world-class technological prowess will create an opportunity for the two institutions to produce excellent talent and become strong research partners.”

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is actively fostering talent in the communications field through a joint major system in which several departments jointly open major courses and conduct integrated education.

Samsung Electronics signed an agreement with Pohang University of Science and Technology in July of last year and with Seoul National University in September to foster next-generation telecommunications talent.
