5G network connected robot cafe 'Beat' unveiled
Order reception with 5G and remote monitoring with CCTV KT, which selected AI robot 'Lota', a guide robot at Lotte Tower, as the first 5G subscriber, opened a 5G robot cafe in Gangnam, Seoul.
On the 25th, KT applied a 5G network to the unmanned robot cafe 'B;eat' located in the Samsung Life Insurance building in Seocho-gu, Seoul. B;eat is a robot cafe of the coffee specialty brand Dalcom Coffee, where barista robots take orders and make coffee.
KT applied a 5G wireless network to a mobile robot cafe that was previously operated by connecting to wired Internet. Robot Cafe Beat is equipped with a 5G MHS (Mobile Hot Spot) and operates by receiving 5G base station signals without a wired internet connection.

KT applies 5G network to unmanned robot cafe Beat The 5G network installed in Robot Cafe Beat is used to receive robot status information to the control center 24 hours a day as high-definition intelligent CCTV footage in full HD, as well as to receive coffee orders.
The robot recognizes visitors to the café through the CCTV installed in the robot, transmits high-definition video of the situation inside the café to the manager, and transmits status information such as abnormal signs and malfunctions of the robot without delay.
Unlike order reception, an ultra-high-speed data transmission environment is required to exchange robot status information such as the robot's power status, operating status, and motion recognition.
A 5G network is essential to simultaneously connect multiple modules and continuously monitor and control their operating status.
In addition, at Robot Cafe Beat, you can check the origin, expiration date, and sanitary conditions of ingredients such as coffee beans, powder, syrup, and milk in real time through digital signage.
KT plans to add voice recognition and AI functions to its barista robots in the future. We plan to strengthen our collaboration with Sweet Coffee to provide ordering and information notification functions through voice recognition and to provide optimized services to customers through artificial intelligence.
Robot Cafe Beat is available with a 5G MHS terminal-only rate plan that provides 10GB for 49,500 won (including VAT).
Park Hyun-jin, head of KT’s 5G business division, said, “In the 5G era, intelligent robots will become a new platform that completely revolutionizes our lives and industries as a whole,” and “KT will continuously present 5G services and content of a different dimension with differentiated technologies.”
Meanwhile, KT announced the birth of its first 5G subscriber at the Seoul Sky Observatory in Lotte World Tower, Jamsil, along with the commercial transmission of 5G signals in the 3.5GHz band on the 1st. The main character is Lotte Tower's guide robot, the artificial intelligence robot 'Lota', and Lota contains technologies that will be in the spotlight in the 5G era, such as AI, autonomous driving, and realistic media.
