A service has been realized where robots can avoid obstacles on their own, deliver food to customers, and retrieve empty plates when customers are finished eating.

LG Electronics began operating one LG CLOi Servebot at the Jeil Jemyunso Seoul Station branch operated by CJ Foodville on January 31. This is the first time that it has been applied to an actual store since its debut at CES 2020 held in Las Vegas, USA in January.

Chloe Servebot is equipped with indoor autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance technology, and can divide food into up to four compartments by inserting three trays.

Chloe's subbot screen has various facial expressions to give customers a friendly image. When it detects an obstacle while moving, it says, "Sorry. It is designed to avoid collisions by saying, “Can I pass by for a moment?” and to play a song whenever it moves, notifying nearby customers of its movement.

Following the introduction of the Chloe Chefbot at the VIPS Deungchon branch last November, LG Electronics and CJ Foodville have now introduced the robot at Jeil Jemyunso, demonstrating the coexistence of humans and robots.

Noh Jin-seo, executive director of LG Electronics’ Robot Business Center, said, “The robots that we introduced at this year’s CES, such as Chefbot and Servebot, are now becoming a reality in our daily lives,” and added, “We will continue to develop robots that can provide new value to customers and create a society where people and robots work together.”

LG Electronics sees robots as one of its future businesses and is continuously researching and developing related solutions including robots that can be applied in various fields from commercial to home use. In addition to developing its own technology, it is also strengthening cooperation with external parties such as robot specialists, startups, universities, and research institutes.
