Participating in the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show, controlling vehicles directly with voice commands SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) has introduced 'NUGU auto,' an AI platform for vehicles that allows voice control of various functions, including the vehicle's air conditioning, navigation, and media systems.
SKT participated in the '2021 Seoul Mobility Show', Korea's largest motor show, held at KINTEX in Ilsan from November 26 to December 5.
SKT opened an exhibition hall of approximately 100㎡ with the theme of 'mobility' and displayed the 'Volvo XC60' equipped with 'NUGU auto', providing visitors with a car life experience that has evolved into a smart mobility device.
Visitors can use voice commands without any separate operation to: △ find directions/search each other with 'TMAP', △ play and recommend music with 'Flo', △ control vehicle functions such as operating air conditioning or seat heaters, △ send and receive text messages/phone calls, and △ control the in-car radio/volume.
Previously, you had to run 'TMAP' on a device such as a smartphone and then give a voice command. SKT, in collaboration with T Map Mobility and Volvo Cars, developed 'NUGU Auto' based on Android Automotive OS, enabling direct voice commands and control of vehicles, evolving automobiles into smart devices.
In addition to vehicle-specific features, users can also enjoy the same features offered by the existing "NUGU" platform, including news/weather search, NUGU Encyclopedia, and emotional conversation. Furthermore, the platform offers a smart home service that allows users to control home appliances like lights, air conditioning, and TVs from inside the vehicle, enhancing convenience.
"NUGU Auto," showcased at this exhibition, is installed in the new Volvo XC60. SKT expects that drivers will be able to enjoy a safer and smarter car life by controlling vehicle functions using only their voice.
Leading global ICT companies are entering the market for "In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI)," a term encompassing driving information and entertainment for vehicle occupants, in anticipation of the era of autonomous vehicles. Global consulting firm McKinsey & Company forecasts that the connected car market will reach $1.5 trillion (approximately KRW 1,700 trillion) by 2030.
Park Gyu-hyun, head of SKT’s digital communications division, said, “We planned this exhibition to provide a safe and smart car life experience that has become a reality,” and added, “SKT will strive to provide innovative services to customers based on our advanced technology.”
