Provides cybersecurity capabilities that are superior to industry standards
The next-generation PoE switches with enhanced network security and high network availability from endpoints to central management systems are expected to see explosive adoption in various outdoor applications that require high reliability and cybersecurity features, such as public Wi-Fi, surveillance cameras, and connected streetlights.
Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today announced a new family of outdoor Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches, the PDS-204GCO.
The PDS-204GCO delivers advanced cybersecurity capabilities beyond industry standards for network high availability required for applications that serve as the backbone of long-range connectivity.
The PDS-204GCO includes four PoE Gigabit Ethernet ports compliant with the IEEE 802.3bt standard and two standard Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) Fiber Links supporting 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps speeds.
Fiber links can be used as optical uplink ports for surveillance cameras or as redundant uplink paths to increase network availability, and ITU-T G.8032 ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) can maintain communications even in the event of uplink failure. there is.
Additionally, the PDS-204GCO switch supports various network topologies, allowing multiple devices to be connected via a dual daisy-chain topology, reducing the number of optical cables directly connected to each device while extending the range to reach the main central switch.
The cybersecurity features of the PDS-204GCO aim to protect data traffic transmitted within the switch through system management of the switch, endpoint device authentication and authorization, manual switch traffic policy management, and DoS (Denial-of-Service) attack prevention.
Features that secure switch management and configuration include securing Web browsing using self-signed or Certificate Authority (CA)-signed certificates and remote user authentication and authorization using RADIUS or TACACS+ security mechanisms.
The PDS-204GCO outdoor PoE switch is based on Microchip's VSC7514 10-port industrial Ethernet switch, VSC6817 IStax software package and PoE integrated circuits.
“Like the previously announced PDS-104GO, the PDS-204GCO is designed for easy, secure installation while meeting the high industry standards required for products in outdoor environments,” said Iris Shuker, director of Microchip’s PoE business unit. “A more advanced solution like the PDS-204GCO is needed to better support applications that collect massive amounts of mission-critical data from widely distributed PoE-enabled IoT edge devices.” “With the PDS-204GCO, Microchip is able to kill two birds with one stone by enhancing network security and enabling high network availability from the endpoint to the central management system,” said Dr.
Microchip’s PDS-204GCO switch is available now through the Microchip purchasing portal. Pricing starts at $1,397 each. For additional information and to purchase, contact a Microchip sales representative, authorized worldwide distributor or visit Microchip’s website.
