SRK1004 Launch, Simplified Operation, Energy Saving
STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has introduced a new synchronous rectifier controller that boosts the efficiency of silicon or gallium nitride converters, helping simplify operation and save energy in industrial power supplies, portable device chargers, and AC/DC adapters.
ST announced on the 4th that it has released the SRK1004 synchronous rectifier controller.
Withstands up to 190 V at the sense input, the SRK1004 can be connected in either a high-side or low-side configuration.
Users can avoid complex calculations while optimizing their designs using logic-level MOSFETs, standard MOSFETs, or GaN transistors by simply choosing a 5.5 V or 9 V gate drive voltage device from one of four product families.
The SRK1004 is suitable for non-complementary active clamp and resonant and quasi-resonant (QR) flyback topologies, introducing a next-generation turn-off algorithm to simplify operation and save energy.
These controller features enable the converter to provide high rated output power in a compact size.
In addition to the ability to use small magnetic components with operating frequencies up to 500 kHz, wide bandgap when using GaN transistors(Wide-Bandgap) technology can be maximized.
The controller uses ST's Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) process technology to deliver powerful performance in an ultra-small 2mm x 2mm DFN-6L package.
The SRK1004 operates over a supply voltage range of 4 V to 36 V, allowing it to be powered from a variety of standard industrial bus voltages.
Additionally, the wide input voltage range allows for flexible step-down ratio adjustment to achieve optimal efficiency.
Additionally, this controller has a built-in fast-acting short-circuit detection function, helping to implement robust and stable equipment.
Of the four products released, the SRK1004A and SRK1004B feature a 5.5 V gate drive voltage and can be used with logic-level MOSFETs or GaN transistors.
The SRK1004C and SRK1004D, which support 9 V gate drive voltage, are suitable for MOSFETs designed for standard gate drive signals.
All SRK1004x synchronous rectifier controller products are in production now, priced at $0.45 in quantities of 1,000.
Evaluation boards EVLSRK1004A, EVLSRK1004B, EVLSRK1004C, and EVLSRK1004D are available at a budget price of $50 and allow rapid design and evaluation of each type.
