New 100V Trench Schottky Rectifier Diode Family Launched
STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has introduced a new family of 100 V trench Schottky rectifier diodes with improved efficiency and power density that are expected to significantly reduce rectifier losses in power supplies.
ST announced on the 5th that it has recently launched a 100V trench Schottky rectifier diode that improves the efficiency of power conversion devices with high switching frequency operation.
By minimizing switching losses and increasing the operating frequency of power converters, such as with wide-bandgap semiconductor technology, designers can achieve new levels of power density.
On the other hand, energy loss in conventional planar diodes, including silicon Schottky devices used at high frequencies, is a major factor limiting power conversion efficiency.
ST's trench Schottky diodes offer excellent forward voltage and reverse recovery characteristics, which significantly reduce rectifier losses and increase power density with high efficiency.
The forward voltage is 50–100 mV better than comparable planar diodes, depending on current and temperature conditions. So just changing to these devices can increase efficiency by 0.5%.
The new product family consists of 28 devices, available in eight current ratings from 1A to 15A in industrial and automotive quality grades and in a variety of surface-mount packages.
Industrial-grade components are targeted at applications such as compact switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) and auxiliary power supplies for telecommunications, servers, and smart metering equipment.
Automotive components are typically used in space-constrained applications such as LED lighting, reverse polarity protection, and low-voltage DC/DC converters. These AEC-Q101 qualified parts are manufactured in PPAP-supported facilities and support an operating temperature range of -40°C to 175°C.
The new 100V trench Schottky rectifier, when used with ST’s flyback buck-boost converters such as the VIPer controller and the HVLED001A offline LED driver, reduces the bill of materials (BoM) cost of the active components required for switch-mode power supplies.
All of these products are supported by ST's eDesign Suite Rectifier Diodes Simulator, which supports rating and footprint selection, waveform simulation, and power-efficiency estimation.
These diodes undergo 100% avalanche testing during production to ensure device robustness and system reliability.
These products are available in DPAK packages, as well as SOD123 Flat, SOD128 Flat, SMB Flat, and PSMC (TO227A) surface-mount packages.
All devices are currently in production. For the 1A STPST1H100ZF in SMD123 flat package, the price is $0.107.
