Helps develop low-power printers with 66% energy reduction compared to existing ones, clear image quality

ROHM has released a new printer head that achieves clear print quality while reducing energy consumption by 66% compared to conventional printers, and it is expected to contribute to the development of low-power printers.
ROHM announced on the 23rd that it has developed an 8-inch thermal print head, 'KA2008-B07N70A', that supports 2-cell lithium-ion battery operation (VH = 7.2 V).
The new product is compatible with A4 size printers (width 210mm) and has a height that has been reduced by approximately 16% from the previous 14mm to the industry's smallest 11.67mm, contributing to saving printer space.
The new product supports 7.2V operation by optimizing the heating element structure and improving the driver IC and wiring layout, and reduces the energy required for printing by approximately 66% compared to the existing 12V operation.
In addition, the printing quality was stabilized by uniformizing the amount of heat generated through individual wiring adjustment of the heating element, and clear printing quality was realized with a resolution of 203 dpi even at the maximum printing speed of 100 mm/sec.
The new product supports two thermal printing methods, thermal printing and thermal transfer, allowing printing for a variety of purposes.
It also reduces the effects of expansion or contraction due to temperature changes, improving mechanical strength and durability, making it suitable for A4 size. Provides the high durability required for printers.
Thermal print heads are typically used with connectors or heat sinks, but the new product can also be supplied as a single substrate, increasing freedom in printer design.
If you wish to receive a set, please contact your sales representative or inquire separately via the inquiry form on the ROHM website.
ROHM has started mass production with a monthly production capacity of 5,000 units from September 2024, and plans to develop a 300dpi resolution product for A4 size mobile printers in the spring of 2025. In addition, the company plans to continue expanding its product lineup that realizes high-speed printing and high efficiency.
