STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company, provides space-saving power solutions that support cost-sensitive applications.
STMicroelectronics today announced the introduction of its VIPerGaN65D flyback converter in a SOIC16 package that supports up to 65 W from a universal input voltage for compact and economical power supplies, adapters, and USB-PD (Power Delivery) fast chargers.
This converter provides a space-saving power solution for cost-sensitive applications and is suitable for fast chargers and power supplies for a variety of consumer electronics.
The VIPerGaN65D is a quasi-resonant off-line converter that integrates 700 V gallium nitride (GaN) transistors and optimized gate drivers to easily utilize wide-bandgap technology that improves power density and efficiency.
Operating at up to 240 kHz, GaN transistors minimize switching losses, enabling compact, low-cost circuit boards using small flyback transformers and passive components.
VIPerGaN65D is available in a common SO16n (narrow width) package and features zero-voltage switching (ZVS) to ensure always-on operation at the drain resonant valley.Adjust the Valley-Synchronization Delay to maintain the state.
Additionally, it maintains efficiency as the input voltage increases with the dynamic blanking time, and minimizes input peak power fluctuations across the input voltage range through the feedforward compensation function.
VIPerGaN65D can provide up to 65 W at a universal input voltage of 85 V to 265 V with a current limit of 3.5 A, and has a rated output voltage of up to 85 W at an input voltage of 185 V to 265 V. The standby power is less than 30 mW, meeting the latest international energy efficiency standards.
VIPerGaN65D can be used to implement compact, low-cost fast chargers and adapters, and power a variety of home appliances and electronic devices. It can also be used as an auxiliary power source for desktop PCs and servers, building and home automation equipment, energy meters, household and architectural lighting, air conditioners, etc.
Additionally, VIPerGaN65D helps reduce the bill of materials (BOM) by integrating SENSEFETs (current-sensing power MOSFETs) that optimize efficiency and enable system protection features. These include overcurrent protection, output overvoltage protection, input voltage feed-forward compensation, brown-in/brown-out protection, input overvoltage protection, output overload protection, output short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, and all protection features have auto-restart capability. It also implements frequency jitter for EMI suppression.
ST is offering the EVLVIPGAN65DF reference design to accelerate VIPerGaN65D-based power supply projects. This reference design implements a 24V, 65W power supply with secondary-side synchronous rectification using ST’s SRK1001 adaptive controller, achieving peak efficiency of more than 93% and full protection features.
The VIPerGaN65D is available now in a SOIC16 narrow-body package, priced at $1.16 in quantities of 1,000.
