Low-power short-range wireless MCU STM32WBA6 launched
STMicroelectronics has introduced a new low-power, short-range wireless microcontroller (MCU) series, the STM32WBA6 series, to support IoT connectivity.
These MCUs are used in a variety of smart devices, including wearable healthcare, electronic locks, and remote weather sensors, and they maintain energy efficiency while adding additional memory and digital system interfaces.
The STM32WBA6 is designed to comply with security regulations by embedding SESIP3 and PSA Level 3-certifiable security features including cryptographic accelerators, TrustZone® isolation, and a random generator.
It also supports 2.4GHz frequency wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, and Matter, and can communicate simultaneously with multiple protocols.
“The STM32WBA6 delivers performance and functionality for advanced applications such as smart home, healthcare, and agriculture, accelerating product development and meeting customer needs,” said Patrick Aidoune, General Manager, General Purpose MCU Division, STMicroelectronics.
Vittorio Ferrari, CTO of Meta Systems, a customer, said the device is suitable for developing automotive solutions, highlighting its low power consumption and advanced cybersecurity. The solution is expected to be in production in the second quarter of 2025.
