LG Electronics emphasized software competitiveness as a key element in its leap forward as a smart life solutions company.

LG Electronics held the 'LG Software Developer Conference 2023 (LG SDC 2023)' for technical exchange and communication among software developers at the LG Science Park in Magok for two days on the 14th and 15th, hosted by the LG SW Council.

SW Center Director Park In-seong emphasized, “We will increase opportunities for free communication among developers, accelerate the convergence of software technologies, and contribute to the transformation and leap forward as a smart life solution company that connects customers’ diverse spaces and experiences.”

This event will be themed ‘The Possibilities of Convergence’ and will feature 33 presentations in 6 fields: AI/Big Data, Mobility/Automobiles, Platform/Architecture, SW Technology/Development Culture, Cloud, and Emerging Tech.

LG affiliates including LG Electronics, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft, etc. are global software companies.About 1,000 software engineers from various companies participated and shared their technology and development know-how.

The keynote speeches were given by Background Hoon, Director of LG AI Research Center, and James Gosling, the founder of Java and AWS Distinguished Engineer. Director Baek Kyung-hoon introduced the ultra-large multimodal AI 'EXAONE 2.0' and its utilization within the group, while James Gosling introduced his career development experience and insights, receiving a great response.

Additionally, software developers working in various fields such as home appliances, TVs, battlefields, and commercial displays shared examples of the application of the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, data, platform design, and voice recognition, and freely exchanged opinions.

In the platform/architecture field, researchers from the H&A business division and the CTO division discussed UP appliances 2.0, which combines home appliances and services, and the direction of change in home appliance software.

In the mobility/automotive sector, a CTO researcher also introduced a technology roadmap for implementing software-centric automobiles.

In the field of artificial intelligence/big data, various technologies such as large-scale language model (LLM)-based autonomous agents and deep learning-based image quality processing were discussed and attracted attention.

To this end, we are working with major domestic and international universities to secure customized talent, and we are also operating an in-house software reskilling program and education and competency certification programs to foster software experts.
